Dr. Dre Really Wants You to Take His Pill

Everything that I have today in my life is because of the passion, love and respect that I have to the sound. A lot of people just don’t care or don’t know about quality sound and this is why we’re here right now. _ Dr Dre

In ‘How Dr. Dre Made $300 Headphones a Must-Have Accessory‘, Business time investigates on how the rapper / producer build his new headphone empire.

Headphones is now the ultimate accessory for women and men.

Over the last several years, the premium headphone market has exploded. According to retail analyst firm NPD Group, U.S. sales of headphones that cost $100 or more increased 73% year-over-year in 2012. Premium headphones now make up 43% of all headphone sales, and consumers who make the leap to high-end headphones don’t seem to be regretting the decision._  Business time.

But really, who would buys 300$ a headphones when you can have one at 10-15$? Well apparently the premium headphone market is being driven in large part by the rise of smartphones and tablets. As it is the case for almost every premium and luxury product, the Beat’s  by Dre are not praised for their audio quality and design but for making headphones as much fashion accessories as they are listening devices.

If you’re wearing a pair of Beats, it says, ‘Music’s really important in my life,’ says Wood. “I’ve seen people wearing them at parties with hundreds of people, and they’ve got their Beats around their neck. _Business time

Yep! And as Bieber says : “Kids spend a lot of money on stuff, they spend like 200$ on an Ipod ( yeah well..RICH KIDS!!) and then they spend 15$ on headphones…it just doesn’t make sence!”_ Yeah it really doesn’t make sense, why spending 215$ for an Ipod and a pair of headphones when you could spend 500$ for both !?!?!

Bringing together some of the biggest names in entertainment and sports, Beats By Dre is winning!

Dr Dre has lots of connections in the music industry. Best known for being a rapper and a producer in the early days, he is now a very successful entrepreneur. He is the founder and current CEO of the label Aftermath Entertainment and Beats Electronics.

Beats’s successful formula is to understand the consumer in who, what, where and when is he listening to music. Beats by Dre is almost everywhere the music consumer cand be.

From Will.I.am to Britney Spears, from Miley Cyrus to Justin Bieber, from Eminem to Nicky Minaj. Weither it’s pop music, to rap music but also sport and reality Tv show, Beats partnered with every famous face of the moment and wins big.

However, even if BBD is the leading the market, strong competitors are coming into the game too. From Skullcandy Roc Nation Aviator by Jay-z; Soul by Ludacris, or 50 Cent–Sync by 50, Big rappers are looking for their part of the cake too.

Brands Become New Stars of Music Videos

You expect to see a commercial during an advert break. You expect to see advertisements in your sidebar on Facebook. But should we expect to see advertising in a music video?

Whether it’s a Polaroid picture in Outkast’s “Hey Ya” or Coca Cola Diet, Chanel, Virgin Mobile in Lady Gaga‘s ” Telephone”, from HP tablets in Dr Dre ft Eminem ‘I need a doctor’ , consumers are hearing brands by bands. Either it’s a product, a brand name appearing in the video or even the brand in the music lyrics itself (See Tom Ford by Jay-Z), brands are more and more intrusive in your I Tunes.

If Britney Spears has a new perfume out, you can be sure to see it in her music video. It is her video and her product so that is justifiable, right?

This strategy has become more and more used by brands, because products placed in a music video never disappear, as long as the video exists, so does the advertising campaign. And it’s way more intrusive than a commercial message. And somehow it gives credibility and renown to the celebrity.

But nowadays musicians use brands to make up entire songs.

The last A$AP RockyRihanna Fashion Killa songs is a good example:

Her attitude Rihanna, she get it from her mama
She jiggy like Madonna, but she trippy like Nirvana
Cause everything designer, her jeans is Helmut Lang
Shoes is Alexander Wang and her shirt the newest Donna
Karan, wearing all the Cartier frames
Jean Paul Gaultiers cause they match with her persona

I see your Jil Sanders, Oliver Peoples
Costume National, your Ann Demeuelemeester
See Visvim be the sneaker, Lanvin or Balmain
Goyard by the trunk, her Isabel Marant
I love your Linda Farrow, I adore your Dior
Your Damir Doma, Vena Cava from the store

I crush down with that top down, boys see how I ride ’round
Mami in that Tom Ford, Papi in that Thom Browne
Rick Owens, Raf Simons, boy she got it by the stock [Click here for more]

Yep now you want to buy some clothes right? And don’t even start me on the Tom Ford Jay-Z song….
